Description
‘Jousting Knights’ is an original panoramic painting created using acylic paints on canvas. Inspired by the Jousters at Blenheim Palace and their colourful pagentry, this painting captures the excitement of the event and engages the viewer in a story.
The background is a blur of motion, with an onlooking crowd. Two Knights hurtle towards one another as the lance strikes: a moment of action frozen in time. The winning knight seems relaxed and confident, his horse galloping at full speed. The losing knight raises his shield, but is unsteady, his horse cringing in fear.
The artist, Amy Letts, uses a variety of brushstrokes to convey the scene. The background is loose with bold, expressive gestures repressenting speed. The crowd is a sea of indistinct faces reminiscent of Lowry’s ‘Matchstick men’. By contrast the knights and their horses are exquisitely detailed and highly realistic.
‘Jousting Knights’ is a bold piece of art which grabs the attention with its strong colours and exciting, yet romantic, subject matter.
