Description
Bumblebee is an original watercolour painting by artist Amy Letts, showing a Bumblebee in macro view (extreme close up). It is extremely detailed, showing every hair on the fluffy body as well as the legs, antena and veins of the wings. The wings are painted with iridescent paint which makes it look so lifelike it could fly off the page.
Bumblebees are the most important pollunaters on the planet due to their unique method of ‘Buzz Pollination‘ which helps plants to be more productive. Unfortunately, in may places the are critically endangered due to the loss of their habitats. Life as we know it would irrevocably alter should this helpful creature disappear. You can help Bumblebees survive by mowing less, allowing ‘wild’ patches in your garden and planting Bumblebee-friendly plants.
Amy Letts says: “If you ever visit, you will find I let my front garden grow wild. This is completely deliberate as it is a haven for wildlife. I sow wildflower seeds every year and don’t pull up ‘weeds’ because bees and other wildlife rely on them, especially clover, thistles, yarrow and dandelions.
“I had a close-encounter with a Queen Bumblebee when I was very young. I went running to Mummy to tell her abount my encounter with a giant bee, but she would not believe me! Queens are often twice the size of normal bees, and it is their job to find a nesting site in early spring.”
