Silver Dragons

Description

Silver Dragons is a large, breath-taking mixed-media painting by Amy Letts.  It depicts a fantastical scene with three Silver Dragons surrounding a party of adventurers, dwarfed by comparison. The adventures consist of a glowing knight in armor, a blue-robed wizard and a centaur.

The Silver Dragons tower over them intimidatingly. There is a huge central dragon, and two smaller ones on each side. Each dragon has a unique pose and expression, reacting differently to the adventurers.

The artist, Amy Letts, has used collage and impasto painting techniques and textures to create bass relief. This means that some parts of the painting are in 3D, and protrude beyond the surface of the canvas. Combined with a matt black background it feels as though the Dragons are coming out of the painting. The dragon’s snout, wings and the leg coming forwards all protrude. Silver Dragons also looks different when viewed from other angles.

The piece is painted so that the glowing knight apprears to be the light source. This means the dragons are lit from below, creating a strange and eerie impression. In addition, under UV light, the Knight (and other select areas) actually glow! Silver Dragons is a painting which glows in the dark, but is particularly impressive when exposed to UV.

The spreading wings of the central Silver Dragon are actually silver, using silver leaf foil. They literally shine in the light.

This is a magical, fantasy painting enhanced by genuinely magical art effects. Definately an eye-catching talking point for fantasy lovers.
